The Landrovers using FELIX 3D printing for customized Defender builds and restoration

Any Landy-owner would agree that when your Defender is roaring up the rugged trails outdoors, it’s a piece of your heart that you hear purring under the hood.

This passion for Land Rover Defenders led to the start of The Landrovers (www.the-landrovers.com) in Amsterdam where old Land Rover Defenders are restored and get new life blown into them. Automotive customization is the name of the game. Customers want special features on the car and while standard components can typically be used, lately they have started using 3D printing to produce individual and unique parts. The low volume but high customization nature of the company makes 3D printing an ideal solution for these customized projects.

The vision of The Landrovers for each customized vehicle is brought to life in advanced ways. They are currently developing an electric version of the Defender and it will have a digital instrument cluster and infotainment system in the mid-console of the car. This system is engineered based on 3D printed parts.

The Landrovers happy with their new FELIX Pro L 3D printer

Land Rover’s rich history and strong passion amongst drivers has kept the production of parts and components alive since its start in 1978. So although almost all components can be bought, the company wants to move away from using only standard and original parts, and wants to do something different for each customer. That’s where 3D printing comes in. A truly personal touch is given to each car, resulting in a unique product that no-one else has.

In the future, even the car exterior will be built to be more customized – think about grills, air intakes, headlamp finishers etc.

Enthusiastic team from The Landrovers learning about their new FELIX Pro L 3D printer

The FELIX 3L is the newest member of the FELIX 3D printer family. It is designed to print tall objects up to 400 mm. Developed with FELIXprinters technology, fitted with a large build platform and available in Single and in Dual; the FELIX 3L literally offers huge possibilities when it comes to print large objects with great details. The FELIX 3L is available from € 2400,- for the Single Head version and € 2600,- for the Dual Head version.

Think big, print bigger

At FELIXprinters we noticed there is a growing interest in printing tall objects. It was a great motivation and challenge for us to modify the existing FELIX 3 in a way to print objects up to 400 mm in height. High precision hardware and advanced software tweaking made it possible to print large objects with great detail.

Single & Dual head available

At FELIXprinters we have invested many years in the development of dual head printing. It has proven to work and it gives anyone the freedom to realise complex 3D printed objects. Just like any other FELIX 3D printer, the FELIX can also be ordered with the dual head system, enabling the user to print with two different colours or materials.

3D printing becomes hugely affordable with a FELIX

A large build platform, capable of working with almost any kind of 1.75 mm filament, one or two print heads, controllable with free open source software or our own FELIXbuilder: a FELIX 3D printer gives you a lot of freedom to create beautiful 3D objects in exactly the way you want it.

Benefit from the most recent upgrades

Just like the other FELIX 3 series, the FELIX 3L will be upgradeable too. The modular design of the FELIX 3 series makes it possible to install hardware updates, enabling the user to benefit from the latest technology. Installation can be done by the user or by a FELIX service center.
